Dielectric test failure

Post by jlee13 »

Hello,

We are using the 7055-D isolator in a medical device application to provide isolation between the host PC (a medical-grade PC) and our device.

Recently, during safety certification testing, the 7055-D failed a dielectric test when 2kV was applied between the isolator and the patient (mimicked by a PBS solution). Specifically, 2kV was applied to the outer casing of the 7055-D, which was wrapped in aluminum foil. The good news is that the test passed after we wrapped the isolator in paper and a plastic bag.

To better understand this issue, we have a few questions:

1. What is the material of the outer casing of the 7055-D? Is it metal?
2. If the casing is metal, is there any electrical connection to ground (either on the primary or secondary side)?
3. Are the metal screws on the rear panel connected to ground?
4. Do you offer a plastic or non-conductive housing that we could use for this type of testing?

Best regards,
J
